Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients:
- 9 lasagna noodles
- 4 cups pasta sauce
- 10 ounces (280 grams) frozen spinach, thawed
- 15 ounces (425 grams) ricotta cheese
- 4 cups (454 grams) mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup (50 grams) parmesan cheese, shredded
Vegetables and Aromatics:
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley
Seasonings and Binders:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Warm the oven to 375F (190C) to prepare for baking the lasagna.
- Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions, ensuring they are tender but not overcooked. Drain and set aside to prevent sticking.
- In a skillet, warm olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until they become translucent and aromatic.
- Pour pasta sauce into the skillet, sprinkle Italian seasoning, and allow to simmer for 5 minutes to develop rich flavors.
- Create the spinach filling by combining thawed spinach, ricotta, mozzarella, parmesan, egg, parsley, and salt in a mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly until ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Prepare the baking dish by spreading a thin sauce layer on the bottom to prevent sticking.
- Construct the first lasagna layer: place noodles across the sauce, spread one-third of spinach mixture, then cover with sauce. Repeat layering process two more times.
- Generously top the final layer with remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheeses for a golden, crispy finish.
- Cover the dish with foil to prevent excessive browning and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove foil and continue baking for 15-20 minutes until cheese becomes bubbly and develops a golden color.
- Allow lasagna to rest for 10 minutes after removing from oven, which helps set the layers and makes serving easier.
Notes
- Squeeze excess moisture from thawed spinach to prevent a watery lasagna and ensure a rich, creamy texture.
- Use no-boil lasagna noodles to simplify preparation and reduce cooking time without compromising taste.
- Experiment with additional vegetables like zucchini or mushrooms to boost nutritional value and add extra flavor layers.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute regular lasagna noodles with gluten-free alternatives or use thinly sliced zucchini as noodle replacements.
