Ingredients
Scale
Meats and Proteins:
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef
- 1/2 cup (75g) chopped pepperoni
Cheeses:
- 1 1/2 cups (170g) shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese
Vegetables and Seasonings:
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup (75g) chopped bell peppers
- 1/2 cup (75g) sliced black olives
- 1 cup (240 milliliters) pizza sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Pie Crust:
- 1 package (14 ounces/400 grams) refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
Instructions
- Heat the oven to 375F (190C) to prepare for baking the pizza burger pie.
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown ground beef with onions until meat is fully cooked and onions are translucent. Drain any excess grease.
- Incorporate pizza sauce, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper into the meat mixture. Allow to cool slightly to prevent soggy crust.
- Gently unroll the first pie crust and carefully line a 9-inch pie dish, ensuring even coverage along the bottom and sides.
- Spread the seasoned beef mixture evenly across the bottom pie crust, creating a uniform base layer.
- Create a delectable topping layer by sprinkling mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, pepperoni slices, diced bell peppers, and sliced black olives over the beef.
- Cover the filling with the second pie crust, trimming excess dough and crimping edges to create a tight seal. Cut several small venting slits across the top crust to release steam during baking.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until the crust turns a rich golden brown color.
- Remove from oven and let the pie rest for 10 minutes to allow filling to set and stabilize.
- Slice and serve warm, optionally garnishing with fresh basil leaves for an aromatic finishing touch.
Notes
- Customize the spice level by adjusting garlic powder and adding red pepper flakes for extra kick.
- Swap ground beef with ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for a lighter, healthier alternative.
- Create a gluten-free version by using gluten-free pie crust and checking pizza sauce ingredients.
- Make ahead and refrigerate assembled pie for up to 24 hours before baking for convenient meal prep.
